Stockport Cosmos Football Club
Stockport Cosmos was established in November of 2011, as an open age Sunday league team. The club has grown from strength to strength the last 9 years. We have seen players come and go due to other commitments, but with all this we have become a huge family and much loved by all involved.
In 2018 Stockport Cosmos started to grow, we now have another open age team, Stockport Cosmos Colts and the newly formed Under 10s Stockport Cosmos Cubs.
In 2019 we grew a bit more. We had the additions of the Under 7s mixed team and the Under 15s all girls team: Stockport Cosmos Comets.
In 2020 we had a rough end to the 19/20 season with what we all experienced as Covid-19. The season was cut short and unfortunately, we missed out on some finals and our girls were in the race for the top spot in the league table… BUT having said all that Cosmos are growing again, we have a Wildcats Centre and the junior teams are growing by 5 teams.
Child Safety and Welfare
Stockport Cosmos takes child welfare and protection very seriously.
We have Welfare Officers on the committee whose role is to ensure that, we are fully compliant with the Football Association’s child welfare rules, guidelines and procedures.
All of our coaches, volunteers and committee members have gone through a Criminal Record Check (CRC) check which is renewed every 3 years. The Coaches have also attended mandatory child welfare and safeguarding children training courses.
If your child has any medical condition or allergy, then you must make this known by completing the section on the registration form and informing your Coach. We do everything we can to ensure our players are safe and we expect parents and carers to do the same.
It is our Club policy that parents and carers stay with their child and are responsible for them during training and matches. If you can’t attend, then you must appoint a responsible adult to do so, on your behalf and inform your Coach accordingly. At least one coach in your child’s squad will be trained in basic first aid and each squad have a first aid kit. However, we are not allowed to administer any prescribed medication to a player.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s welfare, please speak to your Coach or contact our Welfare Officer Heather Edgerton.
Our coaches create a welcoming and positive environment for children to play football. They are encouraged to put the children, their needs and their safety first at all times.
All our coaches are DBS/CRC checked (criminal record checked ) and as a minimum, at least one squad Coach will have completed or be working towards the Football Association (F.A.) Level 1 Award in Coaching Football, which includes modules on first aid and safeguarding children.

At the beginning of the season once signing on has been done. Your child will receive a kit, contents being:
- Home shirt with shorts and socks
- Training top which will also be used as an away top for any upcoming games that have a kit clash
- A waterproof jacket/hoody
- And some other club goodies
Players are to provide their own football boots/trainers and shin pads which are essential for playing. They need to be appropriate to the surface that they are playing on i.e. grass, Astroturf. Shin guards are a must. No shin guards will result in your child being unable to play in matches.
Signing On Fee and Monthly Payments
There is an annual signing on fee which is payable before 25th of July. The monthly payments run from the 1st of September to the last payment of the year being the 1st of June.
Your club Secretary will give you the exact amounts and bank account details you need to make these payments.
Your money is used to pay for the numerous (and expensive) hire of pitches and training venues. It is also used to purchase new equipment that the coaches need or are replacing for training. The money is not used to fund the club or coaches kits. We encourage the squads to attract sponsorship to cover these costs.
For any new players joining us, copies of this seasons’ signing on forms and welcome packs are available to download from our paperwork page. ***INSERT LINK***
Alex Miller who is our main club sponsor is the very talented owner of Viaduct Video. You will see Alex from time to time coming to film your games. These videos are then shared on our website and various social media platforms: You Tube, Facebook etc. There will be a section on your signing on form that you will be required to sign if you accept and give consent for this to happen.
If you have any concerns or don’t consent to this please get in touch with your ***welfare officer*** to discuss this.
Sponsors for this recent and recurrent years have included Viaduct Video, William Wood, Qurashi, Matts Plaice, and we welcome any new sponsors that want to be a part of Stockport Cosmos.
You will see sponsors advertised on our kits and social media pages, so if you are on social media give them a helping hand and share their pages.

Annual Club Awards Night
The club holds an annual awards event which takes place on a decided date once the season has finished. Unfortunately we were unable to hold one this year but managed to hold mini ceremonies during our training sessions.
Coaches are encouraged to give out as many awards and trophies for effort as they do for achievement. Coaches also ask parents for their choice of player of the season or most improved player.
The awards night is always a great night for everyone to get together, away from the football pitches, have a laugh and win some fantastic prizes on our raffle.
