James Stevens (Jimmy)

Stockport Cosmos Assistant Coach

James Jimmy Stevens

Personal Profile

I’m 32 and have previously played for Stockport Cosmos and was part of the #IATB foundation of the club. I have also represented Roaring Winds, Hazel Grove and Offerton Park, eventually taking charge of the latter and guiding them to runners up in the East Cheshire 3rd Division and also the ECSFL Cup Final in the 2018/19 season before taking a break away from football.

I have known the manager, Matt Thorburn for several years having first locked horns with him on the pitch and later on managing him for a few games, although he still has a pair of my shorts that he “borrowed” in 2017, Not sure I will ever see them again.

Matt and I have numerous common interests with the main one being football fanatics and Stockport County Fans. The opportunity to come back to a club I have history with and to work alongside him was the only step back into football I would have taken.

It certainly feels like I have come home.

Cosmos Coach Mini Interview

Who is your favourite football player of all time?

Lionel Messi. Has that element of that exceptional kid in a play ground about him. Worth watching a game he is playing in just to see him play and how he plays.

What made you start football coaching?

It was something I always had an eye on especially when my playing days came to an end, not to mention the endless days and nights spent on Championship Manager 01/02….! Having played under a few different managers of differing styles. I like to think I have picked up bits of each and hopefully can bring that to the club.

What’s the best thing about being a Stockport Cosmos Coach?

Pride, Having been a part of the club’s founding years and being able to come back and be a part of hopefully the club kicking onto the next level and bringing some silverware to TK’s front room.
